WHO is Mr. Purple, WHY a BLOG and WHY now, 10/4/2002?

I am Mr. Purple... a former Republican Strategist that has worked on numerous Presidential, Senatorial and Congressional campaigns beginning in 1988 for then Vice President Bush's run... I grew up inside the D.C. beltway, in a political family where winning elections for Republican candidates is paramount.  But instead of being Mr. Red, as in red state Republican, over the past few years and much to the chagrin of my family, I have become more Purple, as in Independent, which is now my color of choice.

What the hell am I writing a blog for (didn't even know what a web blog was until two days ago) and why the need for all the secrecy? Since I quit my strategist job in the family business due to my disgust after working on McCain's unethical, dirty and cheap defeat in South Carolina in 2000 (I guess I'm still bitter.), I still do have a family in that world so if I'm going to speak freely here and give you an insider's take (and some scoops; see below) on what's going on behind the scenes and why, I'll need that anonymity thank you very much... wouldn't want Thanksgiving dinners to get uncomfortable now would we?

WHY NOW, 10/4/2002?...It just so happens that two days ago, I got an email, by mistake, from a former colleague at the RNC detailing a Republican strategy/tactic by the RNC for the upcoming New Hampshire Senatorial race and another cheap, dirty and potentially illegal trick to hold on to Senator Sununu's seat.  This is their plan... they are going to have a company call the Dems voter phone hotline over and over and over again on election day to jam it so no Democratic voters can call to find out where to vote or how to get there, thus suppressing the vote against Sununu.  Now when I read this, I laughed... it's what politics is made of... but when I told a couple friends about it, they each thought that it WOULD BE illegal and that I had to do something... now the dilemma... to blow or not to blow the whistle... I couldn't decide but then a friend came up with the idea that we start this blog to get the information out before the election by posting on New Hampshire sites and message boards so people could keep a look out while preserving my anonymity.

So, to all you Independent and Democratic New Hampshire voters out there, please email me at mrpurple2002@yahoo.com if you experience any problems with the voter hot line on Election Day!

Thanks,
Mr. Purple.
