Two goods options & one bad one for Iraq, Mr. President...

Dear President Bush:

Since you've declared the end of military operations and mission accomplished, from my perspective, you have two good options and one bad one.

The two good options are:
  1. Start taking our troops out.  Or...
  2. Put more troops in.
If we don't start getting out, we aren't going to have enough troops on the ground to control the three separate sects of Iraq. On the other hand, if you put an additional 40,000 troops in, you show your resolve yet a solution to the lack of law enforcement.  Now, I never view it as a good thing to have U.S. troop working as law enforcement but since we didn't go in with enough troops to begin with, I view this as the best option, option 2.

Now, the one bad option:
  1. Status quo.
By installing the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) with Paul Bremmer at the top and by pushing the Baath party people out, you've basically said that you're going to occupy their country without enough security nor basic facilities (electricity, food, etc.)... and this is October '03... if you don't make a move now and stake a position and stick to it, you're going to be caught up in an election fight and thus the STATUS QUO to keep gettin' on.

Put an additional 40,000 troops on the ground in Iraq, Mr. President, please.

Sincerely,
Mr. Purple
